Background
GVI Logistics is a leader in the international freight industry, providing chiller and freezer space in its Christchurch and Auckland warehouses to suppliers who are importing and exporting goods. The company handles both perishable and non-perishable goods.
Its cloud-based software connects with the Ministry of Primary Industries’ (MPI) database to improve the food safety reporting process. MPI traces all goods from production to sale, to identify when and where any threats to food safety occur. GVI and its suppliers must file documents with MPI at every stage in the production chain, from slaughter to storage to shipment.
What we did
Previously, GVI would manually download an exporter’s documents from MPI’s website whenever stock was due to arrive. It would then have to match the stock with the documents, checking weights and quantities – a huge job!
Using Global Office’s software, GVI can now check the stock by simply scanning barcodes with mobile devices.
The software also allows GVI to receive an exporter’s data as it is entered into MPI’s food safety system. It then integrates the information with the exporter’s system.
Scott Hunt, Finance and IT at GVI, says the new software has saved time and costs, and reduced human error during the stock-checking process.
“We’ve been working with Global Office for about five years and are often requesting updates to the software to keep up with our changing business. The team is easy to work with and always able to tell us how we can make things happen.”
